Title: Sapta Sindhu, a site dedicated to the Civilization of the 7 Rivers
After several months of work, saptasindhuveda.com is finally online. It brings together what I learned and understood while translating the Rig Veda word by word, directly from Sanskrit, without relying on existing translations.
This Civilization of the 7 Rivers (Sapta Sindhu) is not a distant myth. It existed, between 4000 and 5500 BCE, along rivers that once flowed between present-day Pakistan and northwestern India. The Rig Veda is its direct testimony, composed by those who lived there.
The site presents the great myths, the society of that era, the War of the Ten Kings, the question of soma, the still-open debate over the origin of these peoples (invasion or continuity), what happened after the rivers dried up around 1900 BCE, a proposed chronology, the archaeology and artefacts uncovered, and of course the gods and goddesses as they appear in the hymns.
This work is not that of an academic. I am self-taught, I learned Sanskrit on my own, and this translation is the second complete French translation of the Rig Veda in history, after Langlois’ in the nineteenth century. It will soon be accompanied by a companion book, Understanding the Rig Veda, available in French and English.
